Simple Self-Care Sundays

Hello, Premeds!

I hope you are all enjoying your lovely Sunday morning. I sure am! This post is dedicated to the importance of taking time for yourself during the week, and some of my favourite ways to unwind.

Self-care is important for everyone. It allows us to escape the stresses of the week and gives us a moment of peace. For me, self-care was incredibly important during my studies because it would prevent me from burning out and feeling overwhelmed. Of course, there are times when you cannot escape feeling stressed or overwhelmed, but having one day a week to simply lean back and relax helped reduce the frequency of feeling out of control.

I personally love to take one day a week, normally Sunday or Saturday, to simply relax. Relaxation is different for everyone; it could be exercising, cooking, spending time with your support system, or just binge-watching Netflix all day. You know what? All of that is totally okay, as long as you feel at ease and stress-free. This is time for you, so it doesn’t matter what the activity is as long as you feel good about it.

My Favourite Ways to Unwind

1. Enjoying My Coffee in Peace

Nothing is more peaceful to me than being able to enjoy my morning coffee sans interruptions. I love being able to savour every sip while looking over my agenda for that day. This is something so easy to do, at least once a week, that starts your day off stress-free. Wake up those few minutes early and enjoy your coffee. Try it out!

2. Self-Pampering

Oh, face masks, how I love you so. I may or may not be a face mask addict, but let’s just say I do love me a good face mask. One of my favourite ways to relax and feel at ease is to throw on a nice face mask. There is something so calming about having that goo all over your face, am I right? My favourite mask right now it the Rose Face Mask by Fresh Beauty. This mask has a soothing gel formula infused with real rose petals and pure rosewater that hydrates and tones the complexion. It feels so nice on the skin, and definitely calms me down. Even though I’m just at home, it makes me feel like I am being pampered at a spa!

3. Curling Up with a Good Book

Another one of my favourite, and easy, ways to self-care is to curl up with a good read. One of my favourite things to do before sleep is jump in bed with a book. Reading allows you to escape reality and join the author on their magical literary journey. I am a sucker for a good medical read; whether it be a memoir or fiction. I could read for hours on end, and it is definitely one of my favourite ways to take a break from the stresses in my life.

4. BLOG

Of course, I could not forget about my love for blogging and interacting with all of my lovely followers via social media. In fact, the reason I started blogging was to channel my creativity into something that could help others who share my same passions. It was a great way for me to take a break from my studies and produce something creative. I love writing, connecting with others, and allowing my creative juices to flow. The last year has been so much fun! I have been able to share my story, my success, as well as my tips and advice to other premed students. I cannot wait to continue to share my journey with all of you throughout the next four years!

So, there you have it! Those are some of my easy ways to relax after a busy week. There are so many more ways you can self-care, like treating yourself to your favourite dessert, renting a movie with friends, or even going for a long therapeutic walk. The list is endless! I just wanted to share my favourite ways to unwind in order to show you all how easy it is to find peace in the simple things. Your weekly break doesn’t need to be expensive or require a ton of planning, it just needs to be something you love.

Please share with me the ways you #SELFCARE after a busy week!

XOXO,

The Girly MD (to be)
