Update: Getting into Medical School

Hello, Everyone!

I am still in complete shock about the fact that I got accepted into my top choice medical school – the University of Toronto.

Canada is one of the most competitive countries when it comes to getting into medical school, and it still doesn’t feel real yet. Not to mention the fact that Toronto is one of the best medical schools in the country (I know, right?!?)! Let’s just say it was a proud premed moment!

So, there has been a lot going on in my life after I found out I got accepted. I didn’t realize that there were so many things that needed to be completed before starting up in September. My life has consisted of running around the city getting bank loans, immunizations, police record checks, and also looking into finding a place to live in Toronto. It’s all great and exciting, but I feel super busy.

I also have some events coming up, housed at the medical school, that I am looking forward to. Something unique that the University of Toronto offers are their “academies,” which are the groups of hospitals medical students will be assigned to for their four years of medical school. Next week I will be attending the academy tours in order to help me decide which one I will want to apply to and work within. This will be a great opportunity for me to both see the campus and get an idea of what each academy has to offer its students.

As I have been dropping off tuition deposits and forms to the admission office, I decided to do some of my own exploring around the campus. I am absolutely in love with the city of Toronto, as well as the university’s campus. There is a beautiful mix of historic and modern buildings that are so eye-catching. It is hard not to fall in love with the atmosphere. There are so many things to do nearby as well. Every corner seems to have its own unique coffee shop or pub. Not to mention all of the quirky shops and boutiques. I really don’t think I will ever be bored, come the school year.

I am really excited to see what this next chapter in my life brings. I am also very grateful to have all of my amazing supporters, readers, and followers to share these moments with. I have some exciting things coming your way, including a redesigned website with upcoming blog posts on my advice for premed students. I will cover all topics from the MCAT to medical school interviews. I cannot wait to share my experiences with you and I cannot wait to begin my journey through medical school.

XOXO,

The Girly MD (to be)
